This season had a new midwife (of color! This was so shocking then. When I was growing up we had one black family in my home town. One. So a white default setting never surprises me, even now. Not because I think that’s how it supposed to be, but because that’s how it always was.) I love the fact that they threw this out there as another marker of how things have changed for the better. The episode that really stood out to me was the one about the woman who had a phobia about childbirth because the last time she had a child they had used forceps and it hurt. Just the idea that this happened to many, many women makes me angry.
