In this season Chuck attempts to become a full fledged CIA agent. It’s a little far fetched, but still fun. Especially with the arrival of Chuck’s mom. What a cameo!

Video Friday: Baby Come Back
This song is such an earworm. I cannot read. It demands to be sung. But it was perfect for the book. Trent was such a jerk in the previous books. I have had people tell me that they won’t read this one because they don’t believe he can be redeemed. I promise, I put him through hell. I brought Wally and Sandy in to make sure Trent did not get off easy. Over the course of the previous three books in the series there had been a sea change in the band that Trent hadn’t noticed. Both Rick and Alan had matured a lot and he had lost Gian as his minion (actually was in the process of it during the timeline of this story.) So by the end, the jerk we love to hate had realized his behavior was terrible and needed to be fixed. Both he and Jenny were working on a healthier relationship. This book also allowed me to tie up the two series. In Satellite Of Love, Maureen encounters Jenny as her first encounter with groupies and by the end of this book they meet again, but I’m not telling the circumstances.

Video Friday: A Gift To Be Simple
I like to experiment with books (obviously) and when I started this one I really wanted opposites to attract. Gian had been kind of an ass in the previous two books in the series. He was such a follower to Trent’s vicious mayhem so redeeming him wasn’t going to be easy. I grew up near Amish country. My mother used to have Amish students and I fondly remember visiting the farms with her. It needed a different title, but I wanted to keep with the song titles. This fit.
What I’m Watching: Chuck season 2
The second season holds up. There’s always a danger with these kinds of shows that the bumbling hero learns everything and suddenly it’s not funny any more. I reference The Greatest American Hero that as a kid I was annoyed by. But Chuck manages to continue to be whacky fun as Chuck learns to handle this thing that’s been dropped him his lap. The cameos starting in the season are priceless also.
Rushing the Passer is available for pre-order

Much of my childhood revolved around football. My brother played in high school and during his junior year they won the state championship. Two of his teammates went on to play professional ball. I went to school with the sister of one of them and he visited our class one day. My mother has always been a big football fan. We scheduled Sunday dinner around halftime and the Super Bowl was a huge deal.
Of course, I also happen to live near the worst team in football. Not long ago I commented on the horribleness of the Cleveland Browns and one of my students very defensively informed me that they tied a game this season so they aren’t going to lose them all this year. Again. Oh yeah, last year there was a parade because the Browns lost every game all year. But we love them. I’m not much of a sports fan, but I have been known to venture out for lunch on Sunday about game time just to be part of the hubbub.
So I wrote a football romance. Sacked By the Quarterback. Because it was so fun I wrote another. Rushing the Passer, which is available today. I have ideas for 3 more as time allows. Grab this one today!
Video Friday: Send Me an Angel
I live three blocks from Dr. Bob’s house. I see lots of recovering alcoholics “coming home.” Right about the 9th of June was Dr. Bob’s birthday and my quiet little neighborhood becomes a hive of activity. Fun fact: there are twelve steps from the sidewalk up to Dr. Bob’s porch. Me writing a book with a character in recovery was inevitable. This book was written before Waiting For a Girl Like You even though in the chronology it comes after. Not sure how fun that fact really is, but there you are.

What I’m Watching: Chuck season 1
This show is so funny and hits all the pop culture high points. I reminded me of way back when I was going to comic cons and sharing hotel rooms with Brian Michael Bendis. (Pro tip: His nickname used to be Bendy and we liked to watch people try to figure out why. They never went for the obvious. I bet Joss Whedon doesn’t call him Bendy, but he should.) But back to Chuck. The first season was delightful and really hit a sweet spot between action and comedy. Extra points for identifying all the references.

Video Friday: Victim Of Love
I tried really hard to title this book something else, but nothing fit as well as Victim Of Love. I really did get the idea for this one laying on a beach in the Philippines, but I didn’t have time to tackle it until I was working in Chile. The long narrow room in the library at the end? I spent a lot of time in that room because it was the warmest place to be, plus I was surrounded by books.
